CROSS-COUNTRY RACE.
SAVIDAN FIRST HOME. LTXXDALB WIXS TEAMS RACE. Whether it is road racing or crosscountry. Savidan. the veteran, is still champion. In the same unhurried, convincing style as he won the road race from Onehunga to Auckland the week before last, he won the ten-men team provincial championship at Birkenhead on Saturday. There was only one man in the race from the whistle. Among some 200 starters, Savidan leapt to the front, and there he stayed for six miles and three-quarters, finishing at least 250 yds ahead of Watters. who was second. The race, over a course which led from the Methodist Church, Zion Hill, Birkenhead, back to a point on the main north road near there, led over all sorts of country— road, bogs, fields, hedges. It was all the same to Savidan. The race, which attracted one of the largest fields yet to take part in a cross-country run, was under the auspices of the Harrier sub-Centre.
The Lynnd.ile Club, wnich has held the championship since 1933. won again this afternoon with 211 points.
