WIN FOR WAIKATO.

HEAVY PACK OUTSTANDING.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

MATAMATA, Saturday.

Walks to defeated Thames Valley after a scrappy game by 26 potato to 0. The weather was perfect, and there was a good crowd of spectators. The Brat half was even, with the Thames Valley forwards superior in the loose. Waikuto' led by a penalty goal by Hawke to'nil. In tie second half play became more lively, but "never readied a high standard among the.backs.' Waikato's heavier pack gradually, wore the opposition down, and tries were scored by Flanagan, Catley, Brown, Child*, and OXeary. Hawks \ converted four.- ■ ; ■' .•'.-.; . • .•;;■■"'..■•;,;" ;

CAPE, PJldviNCß' DBFBATBD.

; V ; KIMBERLEir, July Iβ. liie British Union team to-day defeated Cape Province by 10 polDts to 3.

HARD FORWARD STRUGGLE.

Bard tackling and vigorous forward clashes marked the game on No. 2 ground at Eden Park, where Grafton, although still weakened by the absence of Killeen. Prentice, Dick and Hull, beat Manukau by 10 points to 6. The forwards on botb sides played fine football, but the back play was not up to the same standard. Had Manukau fed their hard-running winger Schubert more they might have been abl« to cope with the better back tactics of the Grafton side , . For Grafton Rojrers and Manders scored, Passmore and Pearman converting. J. Smith and F. Whittle scored for Manukau. LEADERS DOWNED. There was little between Marist and Ponsonby with half the second spell gone in the game at the Showgrounds. Ponsonby then, with a characteristic burst, gained a try which placed them in the lead. They followed • up, and with the forwards going great guns a win seemed -assured. Marlet, however, proved the better finishers, and regaining the lead established a margin that the most determined efforts, of Ponsonby failed to wipe out. The game ended with Marist winners by Iβ points to 12. For the winners Harewas in fine form 'and kicked four goals. Molloy and Hardy each scored tries. For Ponsonby Moses, Burke and Hudson gained a try each.

SECOND DIVISION GAMES. Takapuna ran Otahuhu to a sis-point draw in the second division. game at Sturges Park. Otahuhu was unlucky as it led to within a minute of time when Hook equalised with a penalty goal. He scored previously from a tsimilar position. Cochrane scored a try for Otahuhu and Hedge kicked a penalty goal. Eden beat Suburbs by 3 points to nil. and University beat College Rifles by 31 points to IS.
