FIFTY-FIVE YEARS.
SALVATION ARMY WORK. ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED. Special services were held at the weekend to mark the 55th anniversary of the foundation of the Salvation Army in Auckland. ,
At a reunion service on Saturday afternoon Major A. Armstrong presided over some 70 old members of the organisation. Presentations were made to Mrs. J. Thompson and Mr. G. Gladding, who had served for 55 and 54 years respectively in the Auckland corps.
At the corner of Albert and Victoria Streets, where the firet Salvation Army service in Auckland was conducted, an open-air meeting wae held on Saturday evening, and a rendition was given of the hymn, ''We Are Travelling Home to Heaven Above," which had been sung at the first service.
In the Congress Hall later Major W. Avenell presided over an attendance of 200 at an anniversary thanksgiving service. The celebrations were continued yesterday and special thanksgiving "was made at all the services.
