GANG ELIMINATED.
SCAFFOLD CLAIMS LAST MAN. VANCOUVER, July 7. The hanging of Thomas Bryans, 38, at Toronto, marked the end of the Red Ryan gang of bandits. They had rivalled the exploits of Dillinger, who terrorised Ontario 10 years ago. Bryans was executed for the murder of Norman Ford, a leading golf professional during a hold-up. Bryans, Red Ryan, Arthur Sullivan and Edward McMullen, climbed over the wall of the Kingston penitentiary in daylight in September, 1923. Within a week Sullivan was shot dead by the Minneapolis police. Ryan was killed when he attempted to rob a liquor lorry. McMullen was shot dead by a Customs official last year when he tried to cross the international boundary near Vancouver. But the Customs officer was also fatally wounded.
