J. HEMI OUTSTANDING. N.Z. TEAM-WORK GOOD. NEWCASTLE, July 2. Newcastle, with its four star players in the State side against Queensland, was no match for New Zealand at the Newcastle sports ground. Excellent combination, backed up by a fautless game by Hcmi at full-back, won the match for the visitors by 30 points to 19. The teams were:— Newcastle: J. Steggall, full-ba;k; R. Gill. A. Bull, J. Bonnymun, C. Hazelton, threequarters; C. Kerr, tive-eighth; O. Perrv, half-back; G. Favell, C. Brodie, 6. Olivera, R. Roddan, A. Parsons, A. Russell. New Zealand: Hemi, -Smith, Tittleton. Ohase, Brown, Brimble (2), Anderson, McLeod, McNeight, Orman, Glynn, Cootes. Referee, Mr. M. McMahon. New Zealand's last try was one of the best seen on the ground. Thrilled by the brilliant passing and backing up the crowd of 5000 cheered for several minutes. Picking up in his own twenty-five, W. Brimble sent the ball to Tittleton, who passed to Chase. W. Brimble took it again and the ball then went to W. P. Brimble and on to Anderson, Tittleton and McLeod, for the last-named to score, and Hemi to add the goal. It was League football at its best.

New- Zealand was badly beaten for the ball from tin- scrum, but the forwards, led by Anderson and McLeod, broke so quickly that the Newcastle movements rarely got beyond the five-eighth. Newcastle looked like pulling the game out the fire in the second hah', and scored 11 points to New Zealand's eight, but they were individual efforts.

lorry, at half-back, played almost a lone hand lor Newcastle in attack. His try from hallway, when he beat seven men. was a brilliant effort, and the New Zealanders joined in the applause.

Only plucky tackling .saved Newcastle from a heavier del eat. Time and time again the Xcw Zealanders bombarded Newcastle territory, always with several players in support, only to be thrown back by the dour Newcastle defenders. Right to the end they threw themselves at the flying feet ot the Xcw Zealanders, and it was a tired thirteen that trooped off the field at the end.

The game was played in an excellent spirit, and the ambulance attendants had practically nothing to do.

Trios were scored for Xcw Zealand by Anderson, Tittlcton, McLeod (2). Cootes and Smith, and Hpmi kicked six goals For yew-castle Perry (2). Gill (21 and Bull scored tries, and Bonnyman kicked two goals.
