BY THREE POINTS.

B TEAM DEFEATED.

SOUTH AUCKLAND'S SUCCESS. Marked by hectic forward battles and occasional bursts of individual brilliance, the South Auckland-Auckland B game at Pukekohe finished with South three points ahead at 9 — 6. South Auckland's forwards, battlers all, were better than their opponents under wet and sticky conditions. Potier and Lougbrii were a sound pair behind the scrum, and Hewitt played a great three-quarter game. Under the most difficult conditions Halliwell covered himself with glory for Auckland. Donaldson was the pivot of the back line. Forward, Barry, E. Batty, and Dange were prominent, but the pack went well.

Constructive movements were few at the start, and JLoughrin opened the scoring with a well judged penalty. Brilliant fiveeighth play by Donaldson brought Auckland's first try. Racing past three men he side-stepped and went over as he was tackled. Hardy then galloped over with a swerving run and Passmore missed a difficult shot.

Then the fireworks started, as Donald-' eon took a high pass from Cato and raced for the corner, only to be stopped just short. Penetrative bursts by South Auckland finally ended in Wilson scoring, and they were even. Half-time came at six all: a half that was marked by desultory play with occasional brilliant movements.

Before the determined Auckland forwards South Auckland wilted early in the second spell. After hectic mid-field forward play Dickard dashed tor the corner after a passing bout. Blocked, he gave Hewitt a beautiful reverse pass, and the winger ended a spectacular movement which put his side three points in the lead. Auckland were robbed of a moral try after Cato found a gap and passed to Galloway, who was pulled down. There was a scramble over the line with players of both sides milling about the ball. But the referee, Mr. F. K. Brown, ruled a drop-out and Auckland had lost. «
