INTERESTING EXHIBITION.

PENWOMEN'S CLUB FUNCTION.

Excellent examples of oils, water colours, needlework, commercial art and pewter work were to be seen at the Penwomen's club rooms on Friday when an exhibition of members' work was held. The display was organised by Mrs. Duckworth, the convener of the arts and crafts circle of the Penwomen's Club, and the arrangement of the display and the programme for the afternoon reflected much credit on the members of her circle. * Among this show of the work of Auckland women some very beautiful examples, of art were to be seen. An interesting section of the exhibition was devoted to native flora designs, which were exquisitely painted in the form of calendars and water colours by Mrs. E. M. Tonkin. Also interesting was the display by Miss Marnie Spicer, whose work included almost every form of art. Examples of portraits, which were specially commended by the speaker for the afternoon, Miss Edith Sutherland, were those of Miss Phoebe Goodwin, whose head study of an old man was excellent.

Miss Edith Sutherland, in explaining to the visitors the interesting features of the exhibition, gave an encouraging talk on creative art, during which she pointed out to the audience the main points of the exhibition they were visiting. She congratulated Mrs. Meinhold on her exquisite water colour of trees.

Another interesting speaker was Miss Vallance Young, who gave a short descriptive talk, with illustrations, on the pictures she had painted in various parte of the world. During the aftern «n songs were given by Mrs. W. S. Baber and Mra. Reginald Reed was the accompanist.
