PLAYER'S PROMPT ACTION.
UNUSUAL RUGBY INCIDENT.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLE, this day. Plunging fully clad into the Northern Wairoa River at Tangiteroria on Saturday afternoon, Pera Hemphill retrieved a football which was being used in a Rugby match between the district team and Ruawai. Ruawai were leading by six points to three and were being hard pressed when the full-back, Coaear, kicked the ball into the river. A substitute ball was brought on to the field, but the Ruawai team refused to play with it. The prompt action by Hemphill saved the ball, and the game wae resumed, ending in a win for Ruawai.
