Th- two were menn<er= of a week-end excursion party from Wellington, ami set out from the Chateau Tongariro with one companion for the Tama Lakes whi.-h are situated at the foot of Xpauruhoe, about 10.30 o'clock yesterday morning. Their companion turned back at Taranaki Falls, but the other two men continued on. They were not reported missin* until !U.> o'clock last night, when a Search party immediately set out Thev searched till three o'clock this" rnornin" when they returned to the Chateau without locating the missing men. Further search parties" set oiit at six seven and eight o'clock this morning. Mr Carl Bisberg, a former guide at the I hateau. and Constable Bruce left Taumarunui at four o'clock this mornin-r, and Mr. Bisberg went out on skis to assist in tiie search.

The weather conditions at t*e Chateau over the week-end were bad, and the snowiall yesterday was the heaviest recorded for three years. It was necessary- for the searchers to use skis as it wa=. not possible to walk in the soft deeu snow. ' '
