FARMER FINED.
UNREGISTERED TRACTOR.
VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY.
(Bv Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON NORTH, this day.
A case of interest to the farming community was before the Magistrate s Court to-day when George Young was charged with having an unregistered agricultural tractor on the highway. °Counsel for the defence explained that Youn" had two farms, one on each side of the road, and he contended it was absurd to expect that the tractor should be registered as an ordinary motoi because it had to be taken 100 yards along the road from one farm to the The traffic inspector, Mr. Hartigan, directed the Court’s attention to the regulations which provided for such a contingency. The main difficulty was the third party risk in the case of an accident, and a sriialler fee—lo/—was fixed, plus 2/ for the plates, so it only cost a, farmer 12/ to register a tractor. Defendant was fined £1 with costs.
