NOKOMAI LOSS. EFFECT OF DRY SEASON. (From Our Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, Friday. “Owing to the abnormally dry season a certain amount of working time was lost, hut given normal seasons the directors look forwnrd witli confidence to tlie future," states tlie sixth annual report of the Nokoniai Gold Mining Company, Ltd., for tile year. Tlie net operating loss for the year was £2.745. against £628 last year. Gold-won amounted to 11360 z. valued at .£7969, compared with 1031 oz (£7218) last year. The directors’ report states that hydraulic elevating anil gravel pumping was commenced on. June 1, 1937, and witli tile exception of temporary stops for ndju.-t--imnts lias Continued up to tlie present. Tim two 12in Thompson gravel pumps installed during tlie year have proved themselves quite capable of coping witli Nokomai gravel and wash, as well as attending to seepage and nozzle water. They have fully come up Io tlie directors’ expectations and are proving eminently satisfactory and constant in their work. Tlie machinery is working smoothly, nnd witli much less wear on liners and runners than was originally nnticipated. ■ ■ KILDARE COMPANY’S LOSS. A loss of £BB as against £3196 in the previous year is shown in the annual report .of tlie Kildare Consolidated Gold Miniiio Company, Lifiiited, Otago, for the year‘ ended December-31, 1937. Gold won totalled 2360 z 18dwt, compared with 1990 z in the previous year. Work continued steadily during the major portion of the year, states the directors’ report, and has been confined for the whole of the period to the Surface Hill claim, where the ground, although easily worked, has not contained gold in very large quantities. There is still a large area of this type of country ahead, and it is proposed to continue the present form of operations. There is always the possibility 'that the ground ahead may improve in value, but lack of finance renders impossible any testing.
