MR. HAMILTON'S ATTACK.
RAILWAYMEN RESENTFUL.
(By Teleprraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Resenting what they consider to be an implication that the rank and file of the Railways Department locomotive staff was not measuring up to the duties of their calling, members of the Canterbury branch of the Enginedrivers, Firemens and Cleaners' Association have issued a statement in reply to the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. A. Hamilton. "The Canterbury locomotive staff," the statement reads, "strongly deprecates the attack on the Government made l>y Mr. Hamilton on May 9. with reference to the record of smashes taking place on the railways. We consider it a slur on ourselves, and an implication that the rank and file are not measuring up to the duties of our calling, whereas, as practical raihvaymen we are definitely of the opinion that the series of mishaps is directly traceable to the former Government and their administration under board control. Further, we appreciate the efforts of the present Government to improve the working conditions of the railwav service."
