SKATING CHAMPION.
AUSTRALIAN CONTESTS. MISS JEAN HAHN RETURNS. After competing with success in amateur .-kating championships held in connection with the Centenary celebrations in Australia, Miss Jean Halm, of Christclmrch, one of New Zealand's finest women skaters, returned from Sydney by tiic Niagara this week.
Though the standard of roller skating there is much higher than in the Dominion, Hahn won the waltzing competition, scored second place in the combined waltzing and the two-step championships, and was third in two other events. She will give exhibitions in Auckland, and after she leaves for the South will appear in other centres.
The roller skating s]>ort lias received a great lillip recently in the Dominion by the formation of the New Zealan<l Roller Skating Association, the first of its kind in this country. It is intended that the organisation will conduct championships each year. This year they will take place in Auckland, about August.
