FOUR INJURED.
BRICK WALL COLLAPSES.
TWO MEN IN HOSPITAL. Two men were admitted to hospital and two others received injuries which required medical treatment when an old briek wall on which they were working, on th« site of the new building for Bycrofts, Limited, in Chancery Street, Auckland, collapsed shortly after 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
They were: Mr. Clark Ferguson Pirrett, bricklayer, aged 28, married, of 51, Prospect Terrace, Mount Eden, head injuries, concussion and shock, admitted to hospital, condition to-day fair.
Mr. Percy Pennell, aged 34, single, of (56, Upper Queen Street,. City, slight concussion, shock and abrasions, admitted to hospital, condition to-day slightly improved.
Mr. Charles Strong, 96, Nelson Street, City, and Mr. George W. Bending, of Cowper Street, Devonport, both shock and abrasions, treated in the casualty room and afterwards taken home.
When the accident ; occurred, bricklayers were engaged in filling in a space of about 4in between two brick walls, one of which was an old wall. Owing to seepage of water on the site the foundations had been weakened, and, although a short scaffolding was used to give support, the combined weight <»f the men caused the wall to g.ve way. In attempting to leap clear the workmen fell among the masonry. They were taken to the Auckland Hospital by St. John Ambulance.
