Hundreds of Jews we re arrested in Berlin throughout last night, this coinciding with the intensification of the anti-Jewish measures. Demonstrators manhandled Jews in the streets, or dragged them from shops and punched them.

Dozens of Jews were jammed like sardines in '"Black Marias'' and driven oft' to police stations, while crowds jeered cursed and shouted: "Jews, die like dogs! ' Those arrested include women and young children.

The authorities explain that this step is necessary because the behaviour of .lews lias become provocative, resulting in the population's growing indignation.

The final elimination of the Jews from Germany's economic and social life is apparently the object of the new anti-Jewish drive, says the Berlin corresjK>ndent of the "Daily Telegraph." The Minister of the Interior, Dr. ilhelm Frick, has been empowered to draw up a register of all Jewish shops and businesses, which will be officially marked with a distinctive plate. This will be followed by more stringent regulations to prevent Aryans from buying in Jewish shops or trading with Jewish firms. Jewish traders already have been expelled from the public markets. Cinema proprietors in the west end of Berlin have been ordered to cease selling tickets to Jews. Nazi Storm Troopers raided several cinemas last night and ordered Jews to leave. " i PUBLIC REVOLT? Thousands of Jews have been plunged into a state of terror as the result of Berlin's outburst of anti-Semitism. The Gestapo (secret police) is hourly rounding up dozens. It is estimated that nearly KiOO were arrested during the week. Relatives were not informed of the reason or the fate of those arrested. Jewish shops all over the city are closing for fear of violence. The Government insists that the arrests were purely directed against criminals. Despite every effort to whip up public resentment, crowds watching the persecution appear sympathetic towards the Ji.ws. The campaign is obviously offending public opinion.

"The Times" says that Jewish persecution in Vienna is most bitter. Thousands wait all night outside the British and American Consulates for the purpose of registering for migration, which is usually impossible owing to inability to finance departure.
