LET'S ADD UP FOR A PUZZLE

The Highest Totals Win This is one of the type of competition that was very popular with readers a couple of winters ago. It is a splendid way to spend a long evening. This is how it is done. On the right are little numbered sketches. You are to select words, either nouns, adjectives or verbs, which most aptly describe each picture-— ten words in all. Below is a letter value chart. Every letter in the words you choose has a numerical value. Find the total for each word selected and write it and the word on the form provided. You must use block capitals, as they are easiest for the judge to read. Of course, the important thing is to find the word with the highest value. Be careful to see that the word you choosc really does fit the picture, because absurdly inaccurate wcrds will not be allowed, however much they are worth. Now get to work, young readers, and see what you can do. Fill in the form provided and send it with your name, age and address, and the name of the prize you have chosen, to PETER PAN, "STAR" OFFICE, SHORTLAND STREET, AUCKLAND, C.l. Entries from town readers must reach this office by Saturday, June 25, and front country readers by Monday, June 27. The results will be published on Wednesday, June 29. Here is the fine list of prizes from which you may select your reward:— Gift Toilet Seta, Two-cell Focusing Torches, Delightful Portrait of the Little Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret Rose (in cellophane frame), Charming Study of Their Majesties the King and Queen (in cellophane frame).
