Mas'.ei Bi ierly, who is topweight in the Stakes, has not been in the nil 'i ley .-nice winning at Fllerslie at Faster, while (Jay Host: was third at the ..lk.itu meeting to Day Wind and lit:*- t'.e net- a mile. Malagigi was right up. thud. in the York 1 land leap, run over a similar distance at Eilerslio last Saturday, ami iie would only need to repeat t!:..t i..i in to be hard to beat, for he was finishing on solidly. Engo was second to \ aliimito in the President's Handicap, one mile ami a quarter, at Te Rapa, in April. but has not been in a place in the intciim. However, he cannot be altogether left out oi calculations. Yalmint. atter his narrow defeat in the Cornwall Handicap at the Great Northern meeting, will have plenty of support. Airam won over the distance at Avondale, and if she shows anything like that form she L-. not without prospects. Day Wind was third in the King < (forge Handicap at Ellerslie. while (joid Yaals disappointed at Ellerslie. as diil Light Comedy. Kena showed winning form at Otaki last week, and General Ruse was successful in the Carbine Plate at Ellerslie. Melvanui was third in that event, while Requiem, after being placed over 10 furlongs at Feilding, scored over nine furlongs <it Egmont. Barrister, Gay Rebel and Brow n Lap are possibilities. A number of these horses are racing at Tauranga this afternoon, and their form there may be a guide as to their prospects at Te Rapa. Just now Yalmint, Malagigi, Kena, Day Wind and Enge seem a likely lot.

The Sprinters. A smart Sold of sprinters is engaged in the Seddcn Handicap. Rollicker has not started since he won over six furlongs at the last Avondale meeting, while in his two previous starts he Was in the money. Prince Acre won over six furlongs at the Great Xortker® meeting, as did Gay Seton. while Erndale was just beaten by Jack Tar in tl|e York Handicap, one mile, at the same fixture. Hunting Mars has not done any racing since last August, but he is engaged at Tauranga to-day. Gold Vaals is engaged in the Woodstock Stakes as well as this event. Orate has not raced since the Wanganui meeting last month. However, he has some pace and has been' placed several times this season. Maori Song was fourth in the Members' Handicap, and also finished well tip in the Handicap, seven furlongs, at the Great Northern meeting. He should be improved. Te Monowai was third in the' Members' Handicap, but failed to run prominently at the finish of the Visitor# Handicap at Ellerslie last week. Hunting Blood won a double at Te Rapa lest month, and showed a lot of speed in his races at Ellerslie, but failed to get into tie money. He may do better on his home course. Of the others Salesman, Young Paddon (both winners at Ellerslie) jaiia . Besiege appeal most. The most favoured at present mar be Rollicker, Gay Seton. Maori Song, Erndale, Prince Acre atad Young Paddon. The acceptances are:— ANDREW KAT STEEPLECHASE of £200 and Trophy value £25. About two miles and a quarter.
