SHOULD HAVE BEEN BIGGER.
LEAGUE VICTORY. MARGIN OF 21 POINTS AGAINST WEAK TEAM. NO "DEVIL" IN PLAT. United Press Association.—Copyright. SYDNEY, Juno 15. Failing in tactics and handling, the New Zealand Rugby League team managed to win by only 23 points to two against the poor country opposition provided by the tar North Coast team at Lismore to-day. There was an attendance of 2000 spectators. The weather was wet, and a soggy ground precluded any bright back play. A drizzle of rain during the tiitst spell made the ball like greased gla«s. There was no wind. The New Zealand team was as follows: I'ull-back, J. Smith; three-quarters, Brown, Midgley, Titt.leton; five-eighths, McNeil. W. Brimble; half-back, Grotte; forwards, Anderson, Gault, Glynn, Satherley, Cootes, Herring. The play of the S<*w Zealand backs did not inspire confidence, there being a lack of enterprise, while they seldom managed to penetrate the opposing defence. There was no "devil'' in the play of the forwards, whose offside tactics resulted in many penalties being given against> the visitors. Only sound tackling by Smith prevented the home side lroin scoring several tries. Brimble, Anderson, Tittleton, Brown and Grotte scored tries lor Xew Zealand, Smith converting four. O'Connor kicked a penalty goal for the home side.
