DEPUTY-MAYOR.
PILLING THE GAP. MAYOR'S NOMINATION. CHOICE OF MR. J. A. C. ALLUM. Inquiry was made from his Worship the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, to-day respecting the action he intended taking with a view to filling the position of deputy-Mayor, rendered vacant by the sudden death of Sir George Richardson. Sir Ernest, who is leaving Auckland to-night for several days, intimated that it was his intention to nominate, at the next meeting of the City Council, Mr. J. A. C. Allum for the position. Mr. Allum was erected to the council at the recent election, and has since been appointed chairman of the works committee. He is widely known throughout the community through his services as a member and president of
the Manufacturers' Association, as chairman of the Transport Board for a period, chairman of the Technical College Board, and a member of other public bodies, including the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Alluin's administrative ability and readiness to take a Ion;; view in public matters is widely recognised.
