PATIENCE NEEDED.

Delicate Negotiations In Czechoslovakia. MR. CHAMBERLAIN'S HOPE. (Received 2 p.m.) KI'GBV, June 14. Tn a House of Commons answer on the position in Czechoslovakia, Mr. (.hamberlain said he was hopeful that, with the goodwill both parties were now showing, a settlement could be reache-.l by negotiations between the Czechoslovak Government and the Sudeten Germans. If these delicate and difficult negotiations. however, were to be carried on in a suitable atmosphere it was essential that the utmost patience and restraint be exercised both in Czechoslovakia and elsewhere. The British Minister at Prague had continued to emphasise in several recent interviews with Dr. Benes and members of the Czechoslovak Government the urgent importance of reaching a comprehensive and lasting settlement by negotiations. Declaring there would be bankruptcv of Eurojtean statesmanship if the future of the Sudeten Germans Mere to be allowed to plunge Europe into a devastating war, "The Times," in a leading article, implies that a plebiscite would be the most satisfactory solution, says a cable message. "The only question is—do they wish to remain where they are or to belong somewhere else?" says "The Times." "What remains to be done is to rectify the error of 1910 and allow the Sudeten Germans peacefully to express their own views concerning the future."
