IMPERIAL AIRWAYS.
Appointment of Wholetime Chairman. DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF BBC. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, June 14. Sir Kingsley Wood, Secretary for Air, informed the House of Commons that Sir John Reith had been invited to become wholetime chairman of Imperial Airways. Sir John had accepted. Sir John Charles Walsham Reith, Director-General of the British Broadcasting Corporation since 1927, was born at Stonehaven in 188!), fifth son of tihe Very Rev. George Reith, a former Moderator of the ChuTch of Scotland. He was educated at Glasgow Academy and Gresham's School, Holt, prior to receiving training at the Royal Technical College, Glasgow, after which he served five years' apprenticeship to fche engineering trade in Glasgow.
