BRONZE AGE CANOES.
FIND IN BRITAIN. HEWN OUT OF OAK TREES. (Special.—By Air Mall.) LONDON, May 21. Three thousand yeara after they were hewn out of oak trees in the Bronze Age two canoes have been found near Nottingham, in the bed of the River Trent. They are 20ft long and 2ft wide, and were found during dredging operations. TMr. C. W. Phillips, of Cambridge Prehistoric Society, has examined them for ' the British Museum, and he said this ! week: "They are in an excellent state after being found under three feet of gravel ext to Bronze Age dwellings which were destroyed, unfortunately, by i dredging work several years ago. They are being preserved, and the process of 1 drying them oat will take months." '
