BANK SHARES FIRM. RISE IN NATIONALS. OILS ACTIVE AT 15/. After the busiest call for some weeks yesterday afternoon the Auckland Stock Exchange was quiet and almost featureless this morning. iaianaki Oil shares, after increasing their value by a third in three days, were active at yesterday's closing price of 15,. Moturoas, also traded freely, were a shade easier at 5,0. Seven out of the nine sales recorded at the morning call were in oil shares. Lack of support for Australian industrials resulted in lower quotations for Broken Hill Proprietary, British Tobacco and Australian Glass. The market for Mount Lyells was also a fraction easier between £ 1 2 7 and £ 1 2. 9. In the banking section Nationals continued to rise, buyers moving up sharply to £2 14, 9, and sellers asking 9d more. Nationals of Australasia, with buyers for the contributing shares at £6 9 .'and K., S. and A.'s with offers of £4 14 6. were both stronger. New Zealands remained steady. Dullness persisted in the gilt-edged section, New Zealand Government 1946-49 stock having weaker sellers at £102 15/ without buying support. The 1952-55 issue was quoted ex interest between £101 15/ and £102 10/. Quiet at Noon. Inclement weather and trade dullness probably accounted for a small attendance at the noon call. The market showed little animation. Interest persisted in oil shares, but there was a slightly easier trend, Taranakis dropping back 2d, to 14/10, with a later market Id either side ot that figure. New Zealand Insurances were offered 3d lower, at £2 17 9. Martha Mine shares showed further weakness, an offer to sell at 11/6 bringing i*> buying response. Wilsons Cements were quoted ex dividend, with a market between 16/3 and 16/6. SALES COMPLETED. *• THt 3.15 P.M. CALL YESTERDAY— Last Safe. fad £ s d Nat. Timber ... O S O .. 080 div.) 015 O ..
