EXECUTIVE MEETING. A BUSY MONTH. The monthly executive meeting of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children was held rcccntly, with a representative attendance of members. In the unavoidable absence of Mr. .T. B. Donald, the honorary treasurer, Mr. D. Donaldson, was elected to the chair. A cordial welcome was extended to a new vice-president, Rev. W. (J. Wood. Reports of the month's work were received from the secretary and inspector, showing 771 office interviews involving 119 cases. Of these 60 were of domestic trouble, caused very often by cruelty or failure to provide the necessities of life. Various problems 23, girls 17. children Hi. affiliation 3. made up the remainder. Maintenance received and paid to clients amounted to £204 4/1. During the month the inspector. Mrs Molesworth. has made several long trips to investigate cases, the total distance covered amounting to almost 1000 miles. A discussion took place on a report presented by the officers of conditions at the Supreme Court affecting child witnesses in criminal cases. A sub-com-mittee was set up to inquire into the position and make suitable recommendations. An appeal for funds for the society's work is to be made next month by means of a street collection jointly with the Orphanages Council. It was decided to help with the street collection next week for the Y.M.C.A. and Sailors' Home.
