Opposition to the suggested increase in budget allocations for collections by the various charges was expressed by several members of the Auckland Presbytery last evening. Tlie Assembly treasurer. Wellington. Mr. V. O. Chapman, advised the total amount required for the year ended 30. 1939, was £38.627 as against £3(3,037 last year, and of that amount the Auckland Presbytery's liability would be £3843 or an increase of £160. The deficit two years a;go, according- to the most recent figures available, was £430 Several members considered no good could be accomplished by making increases as the amounts specified last year had in many cases far exceeded returns. An amendment that the question be referred back to the Presbytery committee for consultation with the Assembly committee was lost after close voting and the levies were approved. The Presbytery clerk, the Rev. A. M. Elliffe. reported that the budget contributions forwarded for the first nine \ months of the year totalled £1381. The required amount was £3000.
