ORPHANS' HOME
ANNUAL MEETING HELD. The annual meeting of the subscribers jto the Orphan Home at Papatoetoe was held yesterday. j The meeting was presided over by Archbishop Averill. who stated that one would imagine in these days of prosperity that there would not be «o much need for orphan homes. However, he was afraid that the need was just as great as it had ever been. The archbishop expressed thankfulness for the good work done by the controlling committee during the year. The annual report of the board showed that a reduction had been made in the debit balance of the working account. The debit now stood at £741. and a pleasing item in the income account was the increased farm profit. During ! the year the numlier of children in the 'home had averaged 72 and at March 30 there were SO. The health of the children had been consistently good. Mr. W. .T. Nicholson, of Papatoetoe. was elected to a vacancy on the committee controlling the home, and the following members were re-elected: Dr. K. Roberton and Messrs. .T. J. Laws. W. Cutforth, C. J. Tunks and E. W. ■ Yates.
