SEAMAN ARRESTED. While in Queen Street near the Town Hall yesterday afternoon. Constable Hughes, on plain-clothes duty, heard Leslie Stewart Mason repeatedly ask two men for money. When a donation was refused the man used insulting language and so he was arrested. This morning Mason, a seaman aped 34. appeared in the Police Court on cjiarges of being an idle and disorderly person who placed himself in Queen Street for the pur]x>se of begging alms, and also for using insulting words. Mason, defended by Mr. Xoble. pleaded not guilty, lie denied using any insulting words, but admitted to the police that he had spent ]/»i on li.juor yesterday and that he wanted 2d for" his ear fare home. ' It was not a fair thing to do and I have no doubt that you used the insulting woids when you were refused money." Mr. (.'. R. Orr Walker, S.M., told Mason. Mason was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months, and also to take out a prohibition order.
