POTATO MARKETING
MR. MULHOLLAND'S ALARM
ATTITUDE EXPLAINED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The secretary of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, Mr. A. P. O'Shea, hafe issued the following statement on the potato position:—"The first statement by the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, concerning the potato position was to effect that 'the procedure to be followed would be announced next week.' This was taken by the Dominion president, Mr. W. W. Mulholland, to. mean that the Government had in mind a scheme for the control of the marketing of potatoes. As no ' farmers' organisation had been consulted, Mr. Mulholland was naturally alarmed. Further, it should be made clear that the two men who interviewed Mr. Nash last week did not represent any organisation of farmers. Mr. Mulholland did not say 'no one had any right to make representations to the Government on, behalf of the potato growers.' His reference was- to the men in question," Mr, O'Shea concluded.
