TENSION GROWS.
SITTING ON VOLCANO. British Correspondent's View Of Czechoslovakia. . is ELECTION INCIDENTS. United Press Association.—Copyright. LONDON, June 13. A long tour of the Sudeten areas disclosed that tension has greatly increased in the last fortnight, says the Pi-ague correspondent .of "The Times." Both Czechs and Germans say the anxiety and uncertainty have lessened their desire to work.
It is not believed the present conditions will last much longer. - Czech officials declare the authorities are* in full control of - the situation, but they feel that they are sitting on a volcano
. Only a few minor incidents occurred on the last day of the elections yesterday, says a message from Prague. The results in the Sudeten German communities followed the previous polling, Herr Henlein's party securing from S5 to 90 per cent of the votes. The Czech parties made slight gains at the expense of the Social Democrats and Communists.
„ Owing to the rival interpretations of the voting, based on different methods I of counting, the municipal elections have ended in three separate and contradictory "victories"—for the Government, for the Sudeten party, and for Father Klinka, leader of the Slovak autonomists, says a British United Press message. This is expected to make the internal and diplomatic situation a bigger deadlock. Political observers declare it is bound to lead to a stiffening of resistance ' from all sides; and make extremely delicate the', coming conversations over Herr Henlein's demands. . ••• ' I
