THAMES ORPHANS.
NEW ZEALAND NIGHT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) THAMES, Monday. A very successful session of the Thames Orphans' Club 011 Saturday evening took the form of a New Zealand night. The stage was transformed into a Maori whare and the members 011 entering were tattooed and decorated with native headgear. The guests of the evening were the Hamilton and Tauranga Clubs, who were enthusiastically received. Mr. Julius Hogben, of Auckland, occupied the chair and took for his address the early history of the Thames goldfield, mentioning the first goldmining companies formed and the licensees of the first hotels. An excellent programme of musical, vocal and other items Was provided.
