BARQUE DISABLED.
TANGLED RIGGING. PEXAXG OFF OTAGO HEADS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUXEDEN", this day. With her main topmast and topgallant mast hanging amid a tangle of rigginj and upper y&rdfe, the Finnish barque Penang, en route to Great Britain from Adelaide with a cargo of wheat, arrived off the Otago HeatLs at two o'clock yesterday afternoon, and dropped anchor an hour later about three miles from the heads. The Otago Harbour Board's tug. Dunedin, went out to render assistance if necessary, but it was decided to leave the barque at anchor overnight and to tow her into Port Chalmers if possible this morning. Xo communication was established with the Penang, a strong south-westerly wind preventing the tug from approaching too close to the disabled vessel, but it was apparent that the da mage was of recent origin as the members of the crew were busily engaged in getting the tangle of masts, yards and rigging lashed up safely for the night. The Penang was to have been taken in tow by the Dunedin at daybreak this morning, and it was expected to berth her at Port Chalmers for repairs at about 10 o'clock.
Owing to a heavy gale, liowever, there is little hop*; now of the vesael being towed in to-day. The Penang is riding safely at-anchor and she reports that all is well and there are no casualties.
The tug has returned to port to rehunker. The Penang is perfectly snug Jnd secure, and. with very heavy seas running and a full gale blowing, towing will not be undertaken till the conlitions moderate.
