SMILIN' THRU WINS. JACK TAR THE YORK. GAY SETON'S EASY VICTORY. Conditions were anything but pleasant for the concluding Jay of the Auckland Racing Club's winter meeting at Ellerslie on Saturday, the weather be'ng showery, •while the going was heavy. There was an attendance of 13,-VJO against 19.000 for the corresponding.day last season. During the day tihe sum or £i 1,21.> passed through the totalisator, compared with £63,322 last year, a decrease of £12.107. This made a total for the meeting of £177.004. against £185,852 10 , a decrease of £8848 10'. Kinkle ran up to his first day's form by winning the Tamaki Steeplechase from the favourite, Power Chief. The latter did not jump as well as lie did on Thursday, when he non the Hcnt Club Cup, Killadar was third, these being the only ones to complete the course. Full of Scotch made his tally three on end at the meeting when he accounted lot the Orakei Hurdles easily. Inness Lad. who ran second to him on the first day. again occupied that position, with Professional next, while High Mir was fourth. The York Handicap resulted in a surprise, Jack Tar, who was prominent all the way, winning by a neck from another outsider in Erndale. The latter was dways handy, while who was •"•■ly a head away third, was well back •-'fcxly, but finished on very solidly. Kilonsa iooked likely when she came through on 4 he rails, but failed to get up and was another heafll away fourth. Smilin' Thru, only for being bracketed with Irish Comet, would have paid a big dividend in the Winter Steeplechase, which she won easily from Lucidus, with the Great Northern Steeplechase winner, Valpeen, third. Smilin' Thru was never very far away from the leaders, and she was just behind ohe leader. Royal Mimic, at the last fence. Royal Mimic came to grief there, and Smilin' Thru went on to score by four lengths. Royal Limond balked at the water jump, while Irish Comet dislodged his rider, but was remounted aT.a finished fourth. Windsor Lad ran off at the first fence of the double and was pulled up The favourite, Erination, did not last long in the Campbell Hurdles, Mia Acrea falling at the second fence and Erination coming over the top of him. Mio Lume was in front along the back, but faulty jumping lost him his place. Lady England then ran to the front and led into the straight from Killadar, Kilberie and King's Archer, who had been a good way back for the greater portion of tjhe distance. Once over the last obstacle Kilberis did best to beat King's Archer by a length, with Killadar, who was haviiig his second start during the day, two lengths and a half away third. Lady England was next.

Johnny Walls and [ Sweet Rose were next. ; The Fitzroy Handicap eaw Bright Idea win easily after being well up all the way. She followed Silver Glow and Alyth into line, with Heeketoon. Barrister and Loombination next. Bright Idea then drew out to score by two lengths and a half from Silver Glow, with Alyth half a length away third. Barrister, Love Parade and Hesketoon followed.
