THOROUGHBRED SALE AT ELLERSLIE.
The feature of the Palo of thoroughbreds at Ellertslie Racecourse yesterday was the offer at auction of CUeval do Volee, who won the Cornwall Handicap impressively on Monday. Bidding commenced for this son ot VaaVs at SOOjrn, and van advanced by bids of oOjw t.i 1000-*. but then stopped. As the reserve price w,i«j IiOOgK Cheval de \ olee wilt; passed in.
A considerable number ui t-portmiu-n from different parts of the Dominion were present, but they were not iu buying mood, and the auctioneer, Air. C. E. Robertson, had some difficulty in securing bids for the various lots offered. In faot many horses failed to elicit a single bid. The sale was conducted by Mee*rs. Wright, Stepheiifon and Company, Ltd., and the 'highest price was fetched by Periling, a. two-year-old colt, who was pmvhased at 200ns by Mr. W. Scholium, of Auckland.
