FARMERS , COSTS.
WIDE DISPARITIES SHOWN.
PRODUCTION OF MILK.
'"Man's greatest gamble is against the forces of Nature" was a statement made at a meeting of the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council yesterday when reference . was made to the • wide disparity in, production costs revealed in questionnaire forms received from farmers. The chairman, Mr. I. J. Goldstme, said that only 40 of the forms had so far been returned, and while some would prove helpful to the council when fixing prices others would be of no assistance at all. It was found that under such headings as depreciation, personal drawings and rate of interest, there were wide discrepancies, and he was of opinion that all the forms should first be scrutinised by a committee and the useful results tabulated before they were presented to the council for consideration.
The secretary said that there were cases of one man placing his personal remuneration at £8 per week and others at V>. Some standardised rate should be arrived at.
Mr. R. H. Ockleston: That ie a very fHtticult matter. Pro4uction coete vary ou every farm year by year. There ie not hinjr" mathematical about farming. A committee comprising Aleesrs. A. Knseer. R. B. Stonex and R, H. Oekleei'lsi was appointed to go into the matter.
