PAPAKURA'S FIRST VICTORY.
A good share of luck was in Papakura's favour, but it is to tlieir credit that They mad'" the most of it. With live of their star players away in Australia, Manukau's reorganised team had nor yet had time to find their feet. and. although they looked well on top at one stage, they faiifd later to find an effective counter to the eager
seizing of opportunities by the Papakuramen generally, and to the hustling, aggressive play of the forwards In %-irticuiar. For Papakura tries were scored by McInnes, Osborne, Crocker and Fogarty,' XlcInnes converting three. For Manukau Wilson scored two tries and Panapii one. Chase converting two and kicking a penalty goal. SUCCESSION OF TRIES. Interest waned In the second half of the Mount Albert-City match, as Mount Albert speeded up their crossings of the City line. There was never any doubt about the issue, but it must be said that sound defence on the part of several City men prevented the margin between the scores from becoming even greater. Tries for Mount Albert were scored by Mclnnarnev (2). Pitt, Pinches. Mincham, Shadbolt and Gunning. MacI.aughlin converted three and Marshall one. Porteous and Wehner scored tries for City, Hutchinson converting one and kicking a penalty goal. NEWTON WINS NARROWLY. An 8-polnt lead in the opening stnges gave Newton a win in the curtain-raiser. For the rest of the game Shore were slightly superior, finishing one point behind. Tries were scored for Newton by Taylor (2), and MacKenzie. and Duncan converted one try. Bennetts and Jones scored tries for Shore, while Verdun Scott kicked two penalty goals. RICHMOND BEATEN. Playing with great dash, the Huntly team went through Richmond to win by 23 points to 11 on the Grey Lynn ground. Their weight and speed was too much for the strong city team, who were shaded both in the forwards and backs. Turner, a big and fast forward, played a great game for the Waikato side, and Beadle, Shaw and the veteran five-ciglith, Miki. were prominent in the backs. Furnell and G. Tittleton went well for Richmond. Tries were scored tor Hnntly by Beadle, Moyes, Gunn and Turner (2), while Shaw converted two trley and kicked a penalty, and Moves converted one try. For Richmond, Metcalfe scored the only try, converted by Furnell, who also kicked three penalty goals. MARIST SUPERIOR. The match between Maiist and Ponsonby was hard fought all the way. At half-time the score was seven points each, but in the second half Maiist added two unconverted tries. For Marist tries were scored by Halsey, Chalmers and Matthews- Murdoch and Donovan each kicked a penalty goal. Petersen scored a try for Ponsonby, Halloran converted it, and also kicked a penalty goal.
