RUGBY LEAGUE.

SATURDAY FIXTURES.

PONSONBY MEET MARIST

CITY PLAY MOUNT ALBERT. The principal fixture of the Auckland Rugby League's championship programme on Saturday will be- the meeting of Ponsonby and Marist, two teams which can be relied upon to put up a good exhibition of the game. Ponsouby have beguu to ehow good form and play a fast, open, attractive game, but they will be meeting a very solid team in Mar is t, who art sound alike iu both backs and forwards.

The earlier match on the No. 1 around will be between Newton and North Shove, and this also promisee to be a keen contest. The Newton team started the season well and have proved themselves to be one of the best teams in the competition, while North Shore have shown steady improvement, and are a very difficult team to beat.

City have been drawn to meet Mount Albert. The former now have the services of J. Banham, the player-coach from Sydney, and his presence in the City backs last Saturday made a material difference.

Both forward divisions are well matched, and the standard of the back play may decide the issue.

Fapakura will meet Manukau, and on form to date the latter should maintain their winning sequence. Papakura have not yet won a match in the senior competition, but the team plays open lootball, and in all their matches have put up a good showing.
