His Majesty's colt License was early away and led to the foot of the hill, where Halcyon Gift clashed into the lead, Pasch then lying a comfortable fourth. At the top bend Halcyon Gift was out two lengths from Chatsworth, Pasch and Scottish Union.

The four lengths lead which Halcyon Gift held with six furlongs to go was reduced to two lengths at Tattenham corner, where Cave Man and Mirza 11. were moving up rapidly. Scottish Union led into the straight with Pasch challenging.

Scottish Union looked a certainty till Bois Roussel came with an overwhelming run from the pack, and won going away by four lengths from Scottish Union, who b'eat Pasch by two lengths.

The winning of the Derby was novice's luck as the Hon. Peter Beatty, brother of Earl Beatty, has only been racing a short w'hile and had recently bought Bois Roussel.

The winner Bois Rouseel only started once previously, and that was at Longchampe on April 10, when he won the Prix Juigny, an event for three-year-olds run over ten furlongs and a half. He was then raced by his breeder, M. Leo'n Volterra, and after that event, it is stated, the Hon. Peter Beatty paid £8000 for him. Pasc-ha won the Two Thousand Guineas, while Scottish Union was second to him. The latter won the Goodwood Rous Memorial Stakes and the Middle Park Plate last seaeon.
