JAPAN'S RETICENCE. Two Warships Over 35,000 Tons To Be Built. 16-INCH GUNS AS ARMAMENT. L'nited Tress Association. —Copyright. (Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, May 31. The Australian Associated Press understands that during the past six weeks Britain has repeatedly sought a gesture from Tokyo that the Japanese" would not exceed the 35,000ton battleship limit. However, the Japanese have not given the slightest clue of such intentions. Consequently, a supplementary Estimate, to be tabled in the House of Commons to-day, includes two capital ships whose tonnage will exceed 30.000 with 10-incli guns. It is expected that three similar ships will he laid down later to enable a complete squadron, in addition to five 3~>,000-ton warships with lt-inch guns already under construction.
