WORK IN THE SCHOOLS.

Mr. F. C. Pace presided over 'tlio annual meeting of the Auckland Council of Temperance Education. He referred to temperance educational work in other lands. In Chile, he said, a new law enacts that compulsory temperance teaching be given in all schools and prevents any liquor bar from existing within 100 yards of any school, hospital, factory, market or workers' tenement. In Finland the Government allocates one and a half million Finnish marks for temperance teaching in schools. Mr. Pace expressed the opinion that more could be accomplished by education than by legislation and urged the continuation and development of the work of the temperance council. The annual report, which was presented by the secretary. Mr. L. E. Falkner, outlined the work of the year. Many thousands of children had been taught the harmful effects of alcohol on the human body. Miss C. McLay gave an address on adult education, iirjring the importance of personal work.
