ELECTRIC TRACK.

ADDINGTON FAST. HORSEPOWER'S FINE EFFORT. PROSPECTS OF ALDERSHOT. (Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, Tueslay. Much lias been written during the past year or two anent the electric eye for judging close finishes, but at the Canterbury Park meeting, which was held on the Acldington trotting course on Saturday, followers of the light-harness game were speaking of an "electric" track, it was so fast. Even in the first event, the Yaldhurst Handicap, Sonoma King went a mile and a half comfortably in 3.19 3-5 from a 3.36 mark. Red Pigeon then covered ten furlongs, with the running against her, in th<s smart time of 2.42 1-5. The performance of Red Pigeon in the Ellesmere Handicap was really outstanding, in that she had all the worst of the going until tile field was two furlongs from home. Her chance then came, and by a great finishing effort she headed Ferry Post in the last few strides to record the time mentioned. The latter looked all over a winner, but his early run round the field told its tale. The Kaikoura-trained Listowel quite justified the confident manner in which he was supported for the Yaldhurst Handicap by knocking 14s off his time. He was unlucky to run up against such a greatly improved trotter as Sonoma King. The Oamaru trainer J. Henderson sprung a mild surprise on backers in the Winter Handicap when his representative, Waipahi, lasted long enough to defeat the faster-finishing Horsepower by a neck. After having all the wonse of the running Horsepower did particularly well, and on this performance in open company must rank as one of the best thoroughbreds ever bred in the Dominion. Donor further justified his claim to rank as one of the best green pacers seen out this season by scoring a decisive win in the Peninsula Handicap. He covered the mile and a half in 3.16 2-5 and had the issue in safe keeping two furlongs from home. Aldershot was responsible for a brilliant performance in the Juvenile Stakes. He quickly shot to the front and led throughout to win comfortably by a length from Special Edition. On this form the son of Wrack and Trix Pointer looks a good prospect for the Sapling Stakes at Ashburton next Saturday. Successful trainer Roy Berry had three representatives in the Juvenile Stakes in Worthy Empress, Centaurus and Axspear. Though none of them finished in the money there are big possibilities associated with Centaurus. After a quick beginning Lady Sonoma scored a runaway victory in the Aviation Handicap. _ Two furlongs from home it looked as if Bittersweet had a chance of overhauling her, but Lady Sonoma was going away again at the finish. Frisco Boy and Ginger Jack staged a sensational, finish in the Stewards' Handicap. The latter lost several lengths in the early stages, but by a great burst of speed joined Frisco Boy in the lead a few yards from the post, and in a desperate struggle Frisco Boy just got the verdict by half a head. The imported stallion Bill B showed a fine turn -of speed in the Peninsula Handicap, and in finishing fourth registered his best effort to date. At present his drawback is lack of stamina.
