COUNTRY GIRLS.
MAYORAL RECEPTION. OFFICIAL WELCOME. ! The country "iris visiting Auckland for the educational week arranged by the Waitemata provincial executive of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union and the Auckland Federation of Women's Institutes were entertained yesterday morning at a Mayoral reception in the Town Hall. A speech of welcome was made by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, who remarked that on a previous occasion, similar to the present one, there had been very few girls taking advantage of the course. This year, however, the numbers had considerably grown. He also suggested that an arrangement might be made by means of which town girls could pay a return visit to the country. A cordial welcome to the visitors was also extended by the Mayoress, Lady Davis. On behalf of their respective organisations, Mrs. Noel Adams (Women's Division) and Mrs. X. R. McElwain (Women's Institutes) thanked the Mayor for his welcome to the girls. Miss Harriet Topp, of Mercury Bay, replied on behalf of the girls. Following the reception the girk were the guests of Sir Ernest and Lady Davis at morning tea. Later in the day the girls were entertained at a luncheon party at the Farmers' Trading Company tearooms. Among the members of the committee present were: Mrs. J. Henderson (Onewliero), Mrs. A. Maloney, Mrs. V. M. Houghton, Mrs. H. Fllett, Mrs. A. E. Appleby, Mrs. R. S. Judson, Mrs. S. E. Sherwood, Mrs. E. V. Blake, Mrs. Sawyer and Miss R. Paul. This morning a picnic to Rangitoto had been arranged and this evening a programme will be presented by the W.E.A. Dramatic Club.
