NEARLY COMPLETED.
GRAFTON BRIDGE REPAIRS.
Extensive repairs to Grafton Bridge, now almost completed, have been carried out within the estimate of £25,000 made by the city engineer, Mr. J. Tyler. Defects which developed two years ago necessitated the removal of old girders, the building of new intermediate piers, and the moulding of new girders in reinforced concrete. The main work j beneath the decking has been completed, and steel expansion joints are being placed in position on the road surface.
Repairs have also been made to the balustrading where it has weathered or fretted.
During the repair work the speed limit on the bridge was reduced, but it will soon be restored to the previous limit of 20 miles an hour. *
