CZECH POLLING.

SUDETEN GAINS

Swing to Left Continues in

Prague.

CALM THROUGHOUT' COUNTRY

United Press Association.—Copyright.

LONDON, May 30

Preliminary returns in the second day of the Czech municipal elections indicate that 80 per cent of the German votes were cast for Herr Henlein's party. Gablonz, the largest Sudeten German community in the country, returned 34 Henlein candidates from 42 seats.

Except for the loss or two seats, the Henlein party gained further ground generally. Herr Henlein himself had an overwhelming majonty at his birthplace, Massersdorf. In Prague the swing to the Left continued.

The Paris Press is most satisfied at the calm in Czechoslovakia, and features the report of the Czech Minister, Dr. Osusky, who has given Bonnet, Minister of Foreign Affairs, a complete outline of Prague's plans for the settlement of the problem.

He declared the Government would go as far as possible without abandoning to the minorities any control over foreign and military affairs,

It is believed the three main points are an offer to the Germans of the use of their own language in all fields as if in their own State; financial control of the school system in their districts where Germans predominate; control of the municipal councils, and exact proportiou of Civil Service posts.
