THE EUROPEAN ZONE. GERMANY, FRANCE AND BELGIUM. LONDON, May 31. Further results in the third round of the European zope of the Davis Cup:— At Paris.—France eliminated Italy. Bolelli arid Pellizza beat Taroni and Quintaville, 9 —7, 6 —3, 6—4. (The Frenchmen, Petra and Destremeau had won the opening singles). At Budapest. — Germany eliminated Hungary. Von Metaxa beat Dallos, 6—2, 3 —6, 6—3, 6 —2. (Germany had led by two rubbers to one, Metaxa having lost his first single to Gabcry).
At Brussels.—Lacroix (Belgium) beat Sawhney (India), 6—4, 6—3, 6—4. Lacroix and De Borinan beat Nahommed Ghaus and Sawhney, 4—6, 3—6. 6—4, 7—5, 6—4. When Lacroix won his other single to-day the Indians were eliminated by three rubbers to one (Ghaus having beaten Maeyaert in the other opening singles). The score in the Lacroix—Ghaus contest was 7—5, o—6, 2—6, 7—5. 6—3.
At Belgrade.—Shroeder (Sweden) beat Pallada (Yugoslavia), 7—5, I—6, 6—2, 6—B, 6—3, while Puncec (Yugoslavia) won a straight set from Rohlson (Sweden), 6—2, 6—3, 6—2.
Germany and France met in the top hnal, while in the other semi-final Belgium will play the winner of the SwedenYugoslavia tie.
In the American zone Australia is drawn against Mexico, and Japan has been matched against Canada. Uuited States (holder) stands out until the respective zone winners decide who is to play the Americans in the challenge round.
