United Press Association. —Copyright.

(KPCPived 1.30 p.m.) MEXICO CITY. May 23. The Defence Ministry has announced that Hipolito Cedillo. nephew* of General Cedillo. leader of the San Luis revolution, was killed with 11 followers in a clasli with Government

troops. • It added that Federal forces were pursuing the rebels. "We will soon liquidate this situation." they say. "We are granting ample guarantees to peasants, who have been misled and are now returning to their homes."

The realisation that Mexico may be on the eve of a new revolutionary period has -spread anxiety throughout the capital, states the Mexico City correspondent of the "Xew York Times." It is- emphasised that there is a possibility that General Ccdillo's revolt ma afford an opportunity for other antiGovernment groups to join the movement. Official sources have continued to minimise the recent events, reiterating that General Cedillo is not supported so far by a single member of the Army. It is also stated that there is no sign lof support from any section of the I country, besides the San Luis Potosi area, which admittedly is in the rebel's hands.

Officials insist that it is only President Cardenas' desire to avoid bloodshed that has prevented the cleaning out of this territory, but an inspection discloses that the rebels are in stronglyfortified mountain areas. This indicates that it will be a lengthy and arduous, perhaps even impossible, task to dislodge them. It is understood that fortified aerodromes have been built in several mountain strongholds. General Cedillo at present has command of a fleet of 57 fighting aeroplanes. It is believed that the recent report that he was going to the United States was due to a secret flight to one of these strongholds. Federal troops have occupied General Cedillo's headquarters at his Los Palomas ranch, which was found abandoned presumably due to its lack of strategic importance, states a message from Mexico City. It is reported that the Governor of San Luis Potosi has fled from the capital and has joined the rebels. President Cardenas is making his headquarters at the Governor's palace.
