OSBORNE CUP. CALLIOPE CLUB'S RELAX RACE, C team won the Calliope Harrier Club's annual handicap relay race for the Osborne Cup on Saturday. The fortunes of the race stimulated .keen interest over the ten I miles course from Devonport wharf through JTakapuna and via Glenfleld to Zion Hill, Birkenhead. Change-over points were at ISt. Leonard's Road, Shakespeare Road and Glenfleld Hall. White G° Ambler made the remarkably good time of 14.56, second fastest t M A. Clow, 14 n for ; the last lap. In the second lap team's B .and C had a thrilling duel, with O Sharpe ; and N. Shorter, making fastest and second | fastest times, Sharpe 15.42 and Shorter ; only a second slower. I N. .A.nbler turned in the fastest time in the third lap, 14.43. The road construction works encountered here probably cut down ! the men's times, Ambler being 13s outside the record for the lap. Short's time, 16.36 I was quite creditable. At the Glenfleld Hall th« order of the te.ims was E, C, A, B, D., so that Power, Ushakoff, Charman, R. Dixou j and L. Dixon took over from McMillan, Hardman, Short, Baillie, and N. Ambler. i The last lap, however, showed the scratch team to have too much of a margin to make up, although they put up fastest time. V. B. Ushakoff (C) forged ahead to rope in J. Power (E), and held his lead to win from W. Charman (A) by a quarter of a I mile.
