Bradman Nears 1000
Only three cricketers in history have scored 1000 runs in the month of May—W. G. Grace (Gloucestershire), 1895; W. R. Hammond (Gloucestershire), 1927; and C. Hallows (Lancashire), 1928. In 1930 D. G. Bradman (Australia), with one innings of 75 in April, had aggregated 1000 runs by the last day of May, and T. Hayward (Surrey), in 1900 with the assistance of one match in April also topped four figures. The Australian captain's fourth century at the Oval on Saturday took him to 876 on this tour, and Bradman requires only another 124 runs to be the first man ever to hit up 1 000 twice by the end of May.
