INTOXICATION CHARGE. (By Teteffraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBORXE, this day. Charged with having driven a motoi truck while in a state of intoxication, a labourer, Charles Stuart Binnie, aged 24, appeared before Mr. E. L. Walton, S M in the Magistrate's Court to-day. 'Senior Sergeant J. F. H. McNamara prosecuted, and said the accused was arrested on Saturday evening. He had been observed by the borough traffic inspector, Mr. T. G. Nowell, and Constable Jamieson driving a very noisy motor truck down Gladstone Road in a very erratic manner. He was stopped by the inspector, who saw that the accused was drunk, and took him to the police station, where he was, certified as being drunk. For the defendant, Mr. D. C. Purdie said the defendant had admittedly been certified as being unfit to drive a car, but had not been in a bad state of intoxication, having been coherent in his speech. His truck was a very old one, and it was the noise it was making and not the manner in which it was being driven which first attracted the attention of the inspector. When hailed by the inspector, he had pulled up in a reasonable space. Counsel submitted that the case was not a bad one, and he asked for a light penalty. \ The defendant was fined £15, with £1 1/ co6ts.
