He said that the value of the purchasing power in the hands of factory employers was well understood by the great retail stores, and it was in'their interests to prevent any decrease. The present condition of the clothiim factories, although admittedly caused bv several different factors, might be cited as a case where a sympathetic attitude from retailers might help to promote recovery. ]f there was, however, a disease too deep-rooted to respond to any form of siggestive healing, it would be better for business generally if joint efforts were made to discover and apply the appropriate remedies, so as to prevent the splitting of commercial and industrial interests into separate camps.
