TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH.
MORE ACTIVE MARKET. NATIONAL BANKS LOWER. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHEISTCHURCH, this day. The markets took a more active turn this morning, and lixehange business covered several sections of the sheet, industrials particularly well represented. Banks were still quiet. Nationals of New Zealand were easier, with buyers at £2 12/0, and sellers £2 13/.
Government debentures came in for strong buying support. There were no sellers for any ± per cents.
Little change in values was noted in the early sections. Among miscellaneous industrials Broken Hill Proprietary opened at a drop of u<l, to £3 1/7, but there were more buyers at that price, sellers Id away.
Taranaki Oilfields rose 3d, to 8/, in active business. Cum dividend quotations for Morris HodHtrom revealed strength, with buyers at £1 6/ and no response from holders. New Zealand Paper Mills cased. with unsupported sellers of tire ordinaries asking £1 3/ and of the rights at 1/. Mining business saw a few- fluctuations compared with last local dealinns, but yesterday's quotations were fairly well maintained.
